Senior Designer, Interiors

JOB SUMMARY

Evaluates, selects, performs and manages multiple design teams in a self-directed manner in all aspects of the interior design process, including preparation of presentation materials, schematic design, design development, contract documents, renderings and construction administration activities within an established budget, schedule, site and programmatic requirements.

EDUCATION

- Bachelor/ Master’s Degree from an accredited Interior Design/Architecture program

- Degrees must come from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program or NAAB-accredited Architecture program

EXPERIENCE

- Minimum 8+ years of experience in broad range of hospitality and/or residential Interior Design

- Current registration with NCIDQ or state architectural licensing board strongly preferred

- Experience with LEED® projects, LEED® AP certification preferred

- Knowledge of construction materials, Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E) specifications/ providers, particularly as applicable to the hospitality industry

- Experience with the entire project lifecycle, through post-occupancy

- Experience leading, managing and mentoring multiple project teams

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

- Independently performs assignments with instructions as to the general results expected from senior management

- Prepares preliminary design concepts and alternatives for review by senior management

- Leads the selection of FF&E materials, space planning and programming for design projects

- Prepares drawings and documentation for schematic design, design development and construction documents, and FF&E specification phases

- Supervises and mentors design teams to ensure required project tasks are accurately executed

- Leads design efforts and coordination with consultants throughout the design process

- Maintains existing client contacts and actively builds new client contacts and industry relationships

- Acts as day to day client contact for project design development and design related issues

- Supports and complements senior management at client presentations and meetings

- Participates in industry events, forums, and conferences as required

- Communicates employee development of junior designers to senior management

DESIGN

- Accomplished understanding and display of design principles and theory

- Skillful in all areas of design including interior design, interior architecture, furniture design, accessorizing, and graphic design

- Displays strong creative interior design skills including concept development and hand sketching

- Exercises creative judgment and design application skills in preparing client presentation materials including: graphic sketches, renderings, graphics and selection of colors, materials, finishes and furniture

- Experienced in all phases and aspects of the design process including predesign, design documentation, FF&E specifications, construction administration and procurement

- Advanced understanding of color, materials and finishes

TECHNICAL

- Knowledge of building codes, standards and building systems and structures

- Understands conventional construction methods and techniques and how to document them appropriately

- Produces AutoCAD and manually generated design drawings including elevations, sections, details and schedules

- Performs shop drawings and submittals reviews at the direction of the senior management

- Supervises and/or performs site observations and installations as required by senior management

- Proficient in AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook

- Knowledge of SketchUp and Revit is desirable

MANAGEMENT

- Manages project schedule provided by senior management and structure supporting hours appropriately

- Meets regularly with senior management to discuss design direction, general tasks, project challenges, schedules, upcoming client meetings and deadlines

- Responsible for organizing and maintaining accurate records of all project related FF&E materials and selections

- Understands and maintains accurate time records of all project related assignments

- Attends client meetings as requested by senior management and provides necessary documentation for meetings

- Leads and conducts quality control measures in the development of FF&E specifications, budgets, documentation and material boards as directed by senior management

- Executes delivery of documents, samples and general correspondence to consultants, team members and clients, as required
